Caparo invests £3.2m as it seeks tube market supremacy

WEST Midlands-based manufacturer Caparo Industries has invested £3.2m in its operations in the UK and Poland.

Half of the money will be spent at its regional facilities, centred on Oldbury.

The firm says it is planning to upgrade its facilities and equipment in order to provide higher value added products, and improve services available to customers in various sectors.

Caparo Industries is a diversified manufacturer of steel and engineered products, with a portfolio that includes automotive and aviation components.

The business serves a wide variety of customers, both in the United Kingdom and abroad, including off-highway vehicle manufacturers, the motorsport industry, railways, aerospace and marine.

Caparo said it is making the investment in order to better cater to the requirements of a changing and highly competitive market.

It includes expanding and improving its downstream distribution and customer service offering in the UK precision tube market.

Douglas Dawson, chief operating officer at Caparo, said: “We are presently laying the foundations for future substantial investment in our UK tubular operations, which will include laser cutting, new heat treatment facilities, stainless steel production, additional manipulation cells and tube mill upgrades.

“The aim is to use our extensive resources and engineering skills to grow into higher value added products and services, and to become the premier supplier of tubular solutions not only in the UK but in Europe.”

“This strategy is key for our business both domestically and abroad.”
