The only way is Essex for Bar Sport

STAFFORDSHIRE sports bar chain, Bar Sport, has expanded its operations with the opening of a new franchise.

The business, founded by Cannock entrepreneur and former boxer Scott Murray in 1998, has successfully rolled out its franchise operation in recent years and now has outlets in Newbury, Maidenhead and Bromley with venues at Southampton and Derby and a bar in Scotland in the pipeline. Murray continues to run the Cannock outlet himself.

The latest addition to the group is a new outlet in Braintree, Essex. The £300,000 bar has helped to create around 25 new jobs.

Bar Sport Braintree is being run by franchisee Steve Winder with the help from his father Richard, who has experience himself of running a successful franchise.

Steve, aged 22, said: “When this opportunity came up to run a Bar Sport franchise I knew I had to take it. My father has been running a successful franchise for the last 17 years and is there to support me as well as receiving help and advice from the Bar Sport franchise team.”

Murray added: “It is fantastic to see yet another Bar Sport open in the UK. The Bar Sport franchise is growing all the time.

“It is a great opportunity for would-be bar owners to join the Bar Sport franchise. What we are doing is providing a tried and tested formula and the benefit of our experience before agreeing to work together where we offer branding support and operational advice along the way. The reaction to Bar Sport elsewhere shows we have a winning formula. We eventually want to open a Bar Sport in every town in the UK.”

The venues regularly stage events features top sports stars from the fields of boxing and football. Boxing legends Evander Holyfield, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran and Ricky Hatton have all participated, while England World Cup winners Nobby Stiles and Gordon Banks have also been regular visitors.
