PEL brings in lean manufacturing specialist as new MD

COVENTRY steering specialist PEL has appointed a new managing director to guide the company’s drive to attain world-class manufacturing status.

Cy Wilkinson has a wealth of experience both in global exporting and in the lean manufacturing methods now being employed by the company in order to make it more competitive on a world stage.

A former craft apprentice in toolmaking, he rose through the ranks at several manufacturing companies to become the managing director of a global power resistor manufacturer before joining PEL.

He has an MSc degree in Automotive & Automotive component manufacture, with a focus on lean manufacturing, and an MBA in Engineering Management, both from Coventry University.

He will be responsible for driving forward higher standards of efficiency and productivity at the company which supplies bespoke steering systems to a host of blue chip customers in the bus, military, construction and off-highway sectors including Alexander Dennis, Force Protection, JCB and Dennis Eagle.

Wilkinson said: “I am delighted to be joining PEL at this exciting time in its development and I am sure the company will become even more well-known around the world for the reliability and quality of its products.

“Lean manufacturing and the drive for continuous improvement will help us deliver efficiencies that will ultimately allow us to offer an even better service to our customers.”

To facilitate its lean manufacturing strategy, the company last year brought in a new team of managers experienced in such methods developed in the Japanese car industry.
