Penso heads to NEC event to try and recruit new engineers

A COVENTRY manufacturer is heading to a major trade event looking to recruit new engineers.

Penso, a leading lightweight manufacturing specialist, is taking its biggest ever presence at The National Engineering and Construction Recruitment Exhibition when it starts at the NEC tomorrow (Friday).

The visit is in part due to the company’s admission that traditional methods of recruiting staff are not working.

Backed by a £4m sales boost over the last 12 months, the company is aiming to recruit 10 new employees, including a number of graduate engineers.

  • TheBusinessDesk.com and international law firm Squire Patton Boggs are currently looking to gauge levels of confidence within the manufacturing sector and to determine what businesses want to see happen over the course of the next 12 months. A key aspect of this is a survey, running across all three of our regions, which can be completed here.

Michael Collins, Sales and Marketing Director, has also been invited to make a presentation on Saturday about the opportunities generated by a career in high value manufacturing.

“Any event that puts industry in the spotlight and gives us access to people interested in a career in our sector has to be welcomed,” he said.

“That is why we’re backing The National Engineering and Construction Recruitment Exhibition with a large stand (D50), a keynote presentation and the offer of up to 10 positions currently available.”

He said as traditional ways of finding staff were not working so the company had to be more creative in how it identified and secured the type of people it needed.

Penso currently has senior engineer jobs available in its design and structure group and across its analysis, development and test divisions.

There are also two graduate engineer vacancies and up to five apprentice positions available for delegates visiting the show.

“Turnover has risen to £20m off the back of a number of contract wins with car makers, railway companies and defence contractors…all keen to tap into our concept design, feasibility analysis, advanced composite and niche production capabilities,” added Collins.

“We’re up to about 230 people working for us at the moment, with the possibility of another 100 to be created over the next 12 months.”
