£150m Resorts World Birmingham complex announces opening date

THE next phase of Birmingham’s retail revolution will get under way later this month after operators of Europe’s first resort destination, the £150m Resorts World Birmingham, confirmed the venue would open to the public for the first time on Wednesday October 21.

The first day will see the resort, which is situated next to the National Exhibition Centre, show off its new fashion outlet mall, which features a host of retailers including Next Outlet, Nike Factory Store and GAP Outlet.

The move significantly enhances the region’s tourism offer and will come just a month after the opening of the new £150m Grand Central scheme, situated above the concourse of Birmingham’s redeveloped New Street Station.

The phased Resorts World opening continues two days later (October 23) with the launch of the 11-screen Cineworld cinema, which includes a purpose-built IMAX auditorium.

Following on November 2 will be the opening of the four-star Genting Hotel, the brand’s first resort hotel in Europe.

The entertainment complex also includes 18 bars and restaurants, including TGI Friday’s and Pizza Express and new offers such as the Robata Bar and Grill, specialising in Pan Asian cuisine, the New York-influenced High Line Bar and Lounge and the World Bar, all of which are located right opposite the Genting Arena.

The resort also hosts the Genting International Casino, which will open alongside the premiere of the new James Bond movie Spectre on October 26.

The venue also includes the new conference and banqueting facility, the VOX, which is being managed by the NEC Group.

Peter Brooks, Genting UK President and Chief Operating Officer said: “We are very excited following a two-year build programme that Resorts World Birmingham is coming to life.

“There will be much more to experience at Resorts World Birmingham as the weeks go by and the resort becomes fully operational. We have a full programme of exciting events between our opening day and the end of the year which will demonstrate the wide range of experiences available to our guests.

“We are thrilled that for the time Resorts World Birmingham will bring the uniqueness and excitement of a large scale integrated resort offer to the West Midlands region and beyond – and with it transforming the appeal of the NEC campus and the region’s leisure offers.”

To herald the opening, the venue has also launched its new website – www.resortsworldbirmingham.co.uk – which will provide information on all the opening events plus parking arrangements, opening hours and special offers.
