Flybe heading in the right direction
AIRLINE Flybe has seen its turnaround continue with further growth in both passenger numbers and revenue.
In a quarter two trading statement issued to the London Stock Exchange this morning, Flybe – Birmingham Airport’s largest carrier in passenger volume terms – said the return to growth delivered in the previous two quarters has been sustained.
The airline saw a 10.7% increase in passenger numbers to 2.4m passengers (Q2 2014/15: 2.1m passengers) and a c13% increase in passenger revenue..
It also announced a 13.8% increase in seat capacity to 3m seats (Q2 2014/15: 2.7m seats).
Saad Hammad, chief executive officer, said: “Flybe’s turnaround continues, with our third successive quarter of revenue, capacity and passenger number growth, against the very competitive market provided by other airlines and road, rail and ferry services.
“In our second year of transformation, Flybe’s performance in its core business is on track. We are also determined to finish redeploying our surplus Ejet aircraft.”
Last week Flybe announced a five year commercial arrangement had been signed with Rigby Group-owned Regional & City Airports (RCA).
The deal is for one E195 aircraft to be based in Exeter to serve Exeter and Norwich airports with eight routes to five destinations in mainland Europe starting in March 2016.
