£35m supercar deal puts manufacturer in higher gear

MANUFACTURER Ricardo has driven off with a £35m contract to supply a transmission system for a luxury supercar that will enter production later this year.

The multi-year order will be delivered by the Leamington Spa-based performance products division and will continue over the life of the vehicle.
Ricardo has been supplying transmission technology to the niche and high performance automotive market for the past 25 years, working on many groundbreaking projects.
The identity of the “leading OEM” customer is being kept under wraps but the company has previously designed advanced transmission systems for the Bugatti Veyron and the Ford GT, as well as motorsport companies such as Mclaren.
This deal will see it supply an advanced Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
“We are grateful to our customer for awarding this significant production order for the supply of this advanced DCT,” said Ricardo Performance Products managing director Mark Barge.
“Ricardo’s brand is well-known in the market for high performance niche transmissions for both luxury road going products as well as for the race track.
“Indeed, it is this breadth of experience that allows us to apply technical solutions from a number of high performance markets resulting in a product of unparalleled performance.”
