Green light for transformation of former DEFRA site

A DEVELOPMENT on a former Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) site which will include 150,000 sq ft of office space has been given the go-ahead.

St Modwen has secured planning for new houses off Whittington Road in Worcester.

The outline plans were approved by Worcestershire City Council’s planning bosses for 120 new houses, 36 of which will be affordable, plus 150,000 sq ft of offices in line with the South Worcestershire Development Plan.

The regeneration specialist bought the 19 acre site earlier this year.

Jonathan Green, senior development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “Since acquiring the site in March, we have worked closely with Worcester City Council to see the planning application obtain consent. The site will now be developed by our housebuilding business, St. Modwen Homes.”

Dave Smith, managing director at St. Modwen Homes, said: “Worcester has become increasingly popular with purchasers and it won’t be long before we’re completely sold out in the current phase at Gregorys Bank.

“Building on this success, we’re excited to be going forward with plans for our second site in Worcester.”
