UberEats set for launch in Birmingham

CAR sharing pioneer Uber is to trial its new food delivery service in Birmingham as it looks to expand beyond London.

The move will see the firm going head-to-head against the likes of Deliveroo, Just Eat and Amazon.

The company only launched its UberEats service in the capital two months ago but it is already keen to see the operation expand into the rest of the UK.

Reports in The Telegraph claimed Uber was keen to capitalise on the expansion of its car sharing operation, which has now spread to 20 cities in the UK since it first launched in London four years ago.

The UberEats service is based on an app which can be downloaded via Android or iPhone but it connects to the same credit card account as the car sharing service.

Users are asked to choose a signature dish from an instant delivery menu and then the service claims people could be eating their meal in less than 10 minutes – although the average order time is said to be 35 minutes.

The UK launch of the service follows successful trials in the United States, Canada, Melbourne, Singapore and Paris.
