Traffic Alert: Drivers warned of long delays after accident shuts motorway

DRIVERS using the M6 around Coventry have been warned to expect long delays following a serious accident which has closed the motorway.

The southbound section between J2, the exit for Ansty Park and Coventry, and the M1 J19 at Catthorpe is shut due to the accident, which happened just after J1 and involved a lorry, two cars and a motorcycle.

Diversions have been set up but police and Highways England are warning of long delays in the area and motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible and to allow extra time for their journeys.

Highways England has said it does not expect the scene to be cleared until well into the evening, possibly not until 8.30pm.

A strategic diversion is available for southbound traffic with drivers told to exit at J2 and then take the M69 northbound. On the M69 traffic is to leave the motorway at J1 taking the fourth exit to join the A5 southbound. Heading on the A5 southbound, traffic will re-join the M1 at J18 near Crick.
