Chimney manufacturer sweeps into Birmingham in HQ move

ONE of Europe’s largest chimney system manufacturers has relocated its UK headquarters to Birmingham.

Dinak, which turns over €36m, has moved from Norwich to a new unit at Opus Aspect in Chester Road, Erdington, where around 15 new jobs have been created.

The company was established in Spain in 1983 by three chimney engineers and its European headquarters remains in Vigo but, as the company has gone from strength to strength, it has branched out and now has bases in seven European countries.

Dinak has been assisted in its move by Coventry-based commercial property agents D&P Holt and will look to continue to grow UK sales from its central location.

The overall investment, including new state-of-the-art racking and the additional staff, is close to £700,000.

Peter Cook, UK director of Dinak, said: “We are growing – we turned over £1.9m in the UK in 2013 and that was up to £3.6m last year.

“But we still have very strong potential to grow further, hence the reason for the move to this central location which helps us to access the whole country much more easily.”

Dinak’s client-base ranges from independent stove shops through to nationally renowned developers, including the likes of Balfour Beatty for whom the firm produced four 50 metre free-standing chimneys for an £18m Energy Centre in Gateshead.

The products are made in Spain and then shipped to the Erdington site, where the sales, technical and warehouse teams are based.

Mr Cook added: “There is room to create another floor of office space should we need it and, the way we are going, we believe there is a very strong opportunity for further growth.”

Peter Holt, a director of D&P Holt, said he scoured the area for a unit between junction 2 and junction 5 of the M6.

He said: “Dinak approached me originally because they wanted a unit in the Coventry area but, at the time, there just wasn’t the quality of stock available.

“I looked at several options but this one was ideally suited to them and after negotiating a very good package on their behalf, I can see very strong potential for the company from this location.”
