No Brexit slowdown for architectural practice

WEST Midlands-based architectural practice Corstorphine + Wright, has benefitted from a £250m pipeline of work in the first half of the year.

The firm, with offices in Warwick, Birmingham and Stourbridge, said far from seeing any Brexit-related slowdown, the company was busier than ever.

The performance follows a trend established over recent years.

Between 2014 and 2015, Corstorphine + Wright’s turnover increased by 32%, increasing again by 35% between 2015 and 2016.

It said the work volumes were consistent with demand on both a local and national level; the firm also has a presence in London, Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester, Canterbury and Dublin.

Paul Turner, of Corstorphine + Wright, said: “These figures are a fantastic advert for the strength of the practice, but also for the market in which we operate. Much was said about ‘pre-referendum’ nervousness in 2016 but we have experienced nothing of the sort, instead winning new work to the value of £250m.

“We are particularly seeing a surge in sectors such as mixed-use town and city centre developments, student accommodation and private rented sector In fact, even with Brexit now firmly on the horizon, we can only see our new business pipeline, and therefore our future turnover, growing in line with the figures we have achieved so far in 2016.”

The growth in new business has also seen the firm taken on a number of new staff, including two new Associate Directors in Warwick and Birmingham, as well as numerous Senior and Junior Architects and Technicians.

The company is now aiming to take on more new staff in the second half of the year, in anticipation of continuing levels of growth.
