MILLS & Reeve has strengthened its corporate tax offering in Birmingham with the appointment of a new specialist.

Neil Pearson joins the firm as partner having made the relatively short journey from Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co (now Gowling WLG), where he held a similar position.

Mr Pearson, who while based in Birmingham, will operate across the firm’s six UK offices, specialises in social investment, venture capital schemes and employee share ownership.
 
Kevin Lowe, partner and head of Mills & Reeve’s corporate and commercial team, said: “We’re looking to grow our corporate tax practice, concentrating on the areas surrounding the funding of businesses, social enterprises and not-for-profit bodies as well as the growing interest in mutual and employee engagement through share ownership. Neil’s appointment, together with an already ambitious team, will help us to make further in-roads particularly in employee ownership and social finance.”
 
The Mills & Reeve corporate tax team’s clients range from individuals, such as angel investors, to the large private sector companies such as BUPA and Center Parcs, as well as a multitude of public, private and charitable entities in between.

IRWIN MITCHELL has announced more than 50 associate promotions across both its legal and group services teams.

In Birmingham, the promotions se the elevation of: Madeline Smith (Costs), Mark Hands (Family), Kirsty Green (Motor), Rosalie Reading (PI – Medical Negligence), Siobhan Mulrey (Employment), Amy Keogh (Insolvency), Jon-Paul Casati (Litigation), Elizabeth Davies (Risk & Compliance) and Paul Finnegan (Risk & Compliance).

Group Chief Executive Andrew Tucker said the 51 promotions represented the impressive strength in depth at the group across many areas of law as well as the service functions that enable the business to run efficiently.
 
In all, 14 business legal services lawyers, 14 in personal injury and seven private client lawyers from teams including family and contentious probate are among those being promoted.

Mr Tucker said: “I congratulate another record number of associate promotions this year. Developing our people is a key priority, as they are the ones who will drive us forward and deliver success for our clients.”

Mark Buttery and Andrew JohnsonANSONS Solicitors has appointed Mark Buttery as the new head of its Family department.

Mr Buttery (right) joins from Cutler Buttery Solicitors and will be heading the family team across all the firm’s offices.  
 
A family lawyer and mediator with over 25 years of experience in advising clients on all family law matters, Mr Buttery also has experience in representing parents and children in children proceedings.
 
The family team advises on a wide range of matters including divorce, separation, cohabitation agreements, prenuptial agreements, arrangements for children, financial arrangements and domestic abuse.
