Wrap Lab experiments with healthy dining concept

A NEW health-focused dining concept has arrived at Great Western Arcade in Birmingham city centre, offering local workers a nutritious lunch option.

Wrap Lab uses freshly prepared and locally-sourced ingredients to encourage diners to experiment with taste. The new venue serves 12 different types of wraps and salads and also offers healthy snacks and drinks, including juices and smoothies. There are also breakfast options available for those wanting to start their day with a health kick.

The diner is the brainchild of Gupy Tiwana and has been launched with support from wife Anshu and his mum Gabby. Gupy spotted a gap in the market for a healthy fast food eatery in Birmingham and wanted to launch a product that was nutritionally beneficial.

WrapLabGupy approached award-winning chef Steve Love, at Loves Consultancy, for help so he and his family could create a series of wrap recipes that were both healthy and with flavours that had just the right chemistry.

All the food at Wrap Lab is locally sourced, with everything from meat and fish to fruit and vegetables coming from companies within the West and East Midlands.

Gupy, who has a background in sports coaching and nutrition, said: “Wrap Lab offers healthy fast food and we are offering workers within the Colmore Business District something different during their lunch break.

“We are hoping that this place attracts people who are willing to try new stuff and want to try different flavours which perhaps they haven’t had before and of course, people who want a lifestyle change and want to eat healthier.”

WrapLabThe venue arrives at the ideal time where many are just two weeks into their New Year health and fitness regime.

Gupy thinks that workers’ approach to food is changing.

He said: “I think that workers’ approach to food is changing every day and people are seeing the benefits of eating healthier nowadays.

“That’s why we chose to set up in the Great Western Arcade, as there are a range of opportunities here and we can learn more about what people want to eat and drink for their lunch.”

Wrap Lab is hoping to open more venues across the city centre if its new concept works well.

James Roberts, Centre Manager at Great Western Arcade, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Wrap Lab here at GWA.

“We pride ourselves on working with innovative businesses, and Wrap Lab is a brilliant example of a team who have created a unique concept that I know will be popular with local workers and shoppers alike.”

Wrap Lab is open 7.30am-6pm Monday-Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and from 7.30am-8pm Thursday and 10am-4pm Sunday.
