Grade II-listed building bought by hospitality group

A hospitality group has bought a grade II-listed building in Worcestershire as it makes its first move into the hotel sector.
Shaker Group, which owns Gas Street Social in Birmingham, has bought the Old Rectory House in Redditch, which had an asking price of £1.45m, and will invest a further £500,000 in the Old Rectory House in Redditch.
The building has stood for several hundred years, with the original Elizabethan house having a Georgian facade added in 1812 by the great-grandson of architect Sir Christopher Wren.
Adam Freeth, managing director of the Birmingham-based Shaker Group, said: “Old Rectory House will sit well within our eclectic mix of hospitality businesses. We look forward to restoring the former glory and family spirit that has characterised this historic venue.”
The property is currently a weddings and events venue and Shaker plans to operate it with a 70-cover Orangery Restaurant, 60-cover terrace and gardens, 30-seater cocktail lounge, 14-seater private dining and 40-seater conference facilities.
