Skip business wastes no time on expansion strategy with £3m investment
LSS Waste Management has invested more than £3m expanding its fleet to meet demand.
The company, which delivers commercial and domestic skips and operates a major waste recycling centre at its Cross Green Industrial Park headquarters, has purchased 10 Scania Skip Loaders and two Scania Hook Loaders. A further ten Scania Skip Loaders are on order for delivery later in the year, taking LSS’ fleet to more than 75.
Nigel Woolford, LSS Waste’s managing director, said: “On paper, £3m is a big investment, but when looked at in the context of the operational side of the business it was the simplest of decisions to make.
“Business is going great and has never been so busy, and further investment in the fleet was essential to give us the capacity needed to deal with such growing and demanding high levels of business.”
LSS Waste Management was founded by Woolford in 1984. Starting with just 10 skips, which he painted bright yellow so that they were easily identifiable as LSS skips, the company moved from its original site to Rothwell in 1987, where it spent 18-years before relocating to its current Cross Green site.
The company has grown by adding to the size of its site through additional land purchases and adopting new recycling methods – the latest of which, a Biomass Plant, will go into operation during the summer.
“Looking at LSS today, it is a million miles away from those 10 skips and one truck that I started out with 33-years ago,” added Woolford. “But the business ethos is still the same – we want to deliver the best possible waste solutions service for our customers, whether it’s a major commercial project or providing a single skip to a house in Headingley.”
