First Jaeger redundancies hit Yorkshire site

Failing fashion retailer Jaeger has been hit with a wave of redundancies, with 209 losing their jobs.

Administrators at AlixPartners, who were called in on 10 April, have now announced the first wave of redundancies at the struggling retailer.

Administrators said that the stores listed, which include one in Yorkshire at Beverley, are “financially unviable” given the retailer’s financial difficulties.

In addition to the Beverley location, sites in Amersham, Belfast, Bluewater, Cambridge, Canary Wharf (2), Cheshire Oaks, Chester, Chichester, Edinburgh, Guilford, Henley, Oxford, Ringwood, Stratford upon Avon, Truro, Wilmslow, Winchester and Windsor are to close. This includes making 165 staff redundant.

In addition, a total of 44 staff have been made redundant at head office and distribution functions.

Peter Saville, Ryan Grant, and Catherine Williamson of business advisory firm AlixPartners were appointed Joint Administrators over Jaeger Holdings Limited, Jaeger Shops Limited, Jaeger Company’s Shops Limited and The Jaeger Company Limited.

They said: “We appreciate that this is a particularly unsettling time for all concerned and would like to go on record to express thanks for the commitment and professionalism shown to date by Jaeger staff.”

Jaeger went into administration earlier this month after a failed sale process.

In Yorkshire, there are Jaeger sites at the York Designer Outlet, Harrogate, Beverley, Rotherham and York Designer Outlet, with concessions at the House of Fraser in Leeds and York, as well as Fenwicks, also in York.
