Leeds jobs to be created by Sky

Telecoms giant Sky is creating 300 jobs across three offices including Leeds.

The company announced the job creation yesterday as part of its year results, which saw revenue rise 5% to £12.9bn.

It returned EBITDA of £2.1m and operating profit of £1.5, down £97m after absorbing £629m of Premier League costs.

The staff increase represents a 25% increase in its software engineering workforce, though it is not yet clear how many will be based in each office.

The new roles will be split between Milan, Leeds and London under its new innovation centre, Sky Labs.

Sky is currently located at Leeds Dock in the city, which is currently up for sale by Allied London for £32m. It has 650 staff at the Leeds site alone.

It said: “This additional resource will enhance our capability to deploy the market leading in and out-of-home streaming platforms that our customers demand; create brilliantly usable on-screen interfaces; develop enhanced personalization and app-based platforms.”
