Contracts totalling £30m secured for maintenance firm

A maintenance firm has secured in excess of £30m-worth of contracts with two Yorkshire councils.

Kier has secured new and extended contracts with Leeds and Sheffield City Councils. The work, worth over £30m, builds on Kier’s existing contracts with Sheffield City Council and Barnsley Council.

In Leeds, Kier has been awarded a four-year contract for kitchen and bathroom maintenance and rewiring. It will also repair windows and doors on a separate contract for at least a year.

This follows Sheffield City Council appointing Kier to rewire and carry out upgrades in 11,000 homes over the next three years. The group’s existing work in Sheffield also includes a roofing contract which is in its final year.

Kier’s presence in the Yorkshire region continues with a repairs and maintenance contract with Barnsley Council in the Property Repairs and Improvement Partnership (PRIP) with Berneslai Homes Construction Services. Since the start of the contract, Kier has committed to working with the local supply chain, with 96% of materials purchased locally.

The firm’s housing maintenance northern business, which serves the north of England through to mid-Wales and parts of the East Midlands, is based out of Thorncliffe Hall in Sheffield. Over 100 people are employed at the local office, which oversees the delivery of 13 contracts across the region.

Phil Oades, regional director of Kier Housing Maintenance (North), said: “Working in partnership with local authorities is a key part of the work Kier does and we are very proud of the longstanding relationships we have with many of them.

“Our Thorncliffe office is a thriving hub and we are proud to have our northern headquarters in Sheffield. We are committed to engaging with the local community on all levels, including our high levels of procurement from local businesses and the number of local jobs created as a result of our 14 years here. Our roots are firmly cemented in Yorkshire and we remain committed to leaving a lasting legacy in the area.”
