Shipping lawyers welcome regeneration plans

MYTON Law, a firm of shipping, transport and insurance lawyers, which has acquired 11-12 Nelson Street on the southern boundary of Hull’s proposed Fruit Market regeneration area, has welcomed Hull City Council’s moves to progress a masterplan.

The council recently held an initial consultation event at which early ideas for a mixture of new commercial and residential developments and refurbishment works for the area south of Hull’s Castle Street were displayed.

“This area of Hull has such a rich history and it is very exciting to see that the City Council is now pressing ahead with plans for sensitive regeneration with work to establish a Hull Fruit Market Masterplan,” said Myton Law’s Scott Yates.

“We are watching the proposed developments with interest and keen to play our own part in the regeneration by bringing new life to Riverside House, 11-12 Nelson Street, which has been empty for around ten years,” added Myton Law’s Iain Butterworth.

Myton Law has discovered that its new 4,841 sq ft waterfront offices, acquired in November for an undisclosed six figure sum, have a long maritime history stretching back to 1824.

“As a business serving the shipping industry Nelson Street’s Victoria Pier/Humber front location was a key attraction for us,” explained Myton Law’s John Habergham. “Discovering close links between No. 11 and No. 12 Nelson Street and the world of shipping makes our choice even more fitting.”

Myton Law, a shipping, transport and insurance law firm, was established in Hull in 2010. The firm provides legal advice to exporters/importers, ship owners, port operators, logistics companies, insurers, insurance brokers and renewables companies.

Myton Law plans to invest another six figure sum in returning 11-12 Nelson Street to its former glory.

Currently Myton Law is based at The Deep Business Centre, where it will remain until work on the new premises, which is expected to take around six months, is complete.

Contractor announcements are anticipated in the New Year.

Hull City Council has indicated that it expects to appoint a lead development partner for the Fruit Market area in April.
