Business recovery lawyer breaks away to launch Sheffield practice

FORMER insolvency partner at hlw Keeble Hawson, Matthew Dixon, has launched his own practice.

Mr Dixon previously headed up the Sheffield insolvency and business recovery team at hlw Keeble Hawson but has now formed his own firm in the same sector.

The offices of MD Law will be based on Broomhall Road in Sheffield, and the firm will act for and advise insolvency professionals, businesses and individuals across the UK.

Mr Dixon has been joined by former hlw Keeble Hawson associate Neil Kelly and solicitor Carl Jones.

He said: “I was at hlw Keeble Hawson for 15 years and experienced the ups and downs in the industr over the years.

“There were certain circumstances that led to my leaving, but starting my own firm was definitely something I’ve thought about doing for a couple of years, and having my destiny in my own hands sounded appealing.

“The team I worked with there have agreed to come with me, and we worked well at the old place, so we’ll be using the same practices and procedures we’ve come across with.

“The practice will be about honesty and trust between ourselves and the client, and being able to have honest discussions.

“Having our own firm will mean we have flexibility in what work we can do, from general commercial work to recovery and insolvency.

“We can decide pricing and how much time we’re willing to spend on a matter now we’ve got free rein. It also means we can expand on the client base that have come with us.

“I’m going to follow my nose to a certain degree and concentrate on what we’re good at as well as perhaps doing more commercial work we may not have picked up at the previous firm and see where we go from there.

“There’s always room for expansion but we’ve got to maintain a certain level of work coming in. With insolvency work it’s difficult to assess what amount of cash flow you’re going to get through, but we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.”
