Recycling firm on recruitment drive as turnover almost doubles to £2.1m

A RECYCLING firm has nearly doubled its turnover and is hiring more staff as a result of a growth strategy which included an acquisition earlier this year.

DJB Recycling in Sheffield has announced a boost in turnover to £2.1m, compared with last year’s figure of £1.2m, after securing 63 contracts in the last six months alone.

The firm is taking on a new employee to develop and drive further sales and is also looking to expand its customer service team.

DJB Recycling, formed by managing director Darren Bland in 2005, announced it was acquiring fellow city business Quay Recycling earlier this year, with a view to using the merger to work closer with businesses from across the city business region – a move the Mr Bland says is already paying off in terms of new business and the resulting boost in turnover.

DJB RecyclingHe said: “The commercial waste sector is one we are looking to grow this year and next as a strong, customer-led local company. Our recent contract wins, increase in turnover and recruitment plans demonstrate that is already happening, as a result of our strong, home-grown focus.

“DJB is a friendly, family-run Sheffield firm where our customers deal with real people who care about providing an excellent service – we currently have nine members of staff in our customer service team but are looking to expand that department further.

“Over the years we have steadily grown our client base to cover most of the UK, but that expansion has not been at the expense of our original values.  As a local Sheffield company operating our own vehicles, and with our own centrally located waste recycling centre, we pride ourselves on continuing to offer a highly personalised service right on our doorstep.”

DJB currently employs 23 people. On average the firm recycle 250 tonnes of cardboard and paper every week along with other recyclable materials such as plastic.
