Nottingham recruiter reveals 100 staff ambition

The managing director of a prominent Nottingham recruitment firm has told TheBusinessDesk.com that his firm will break through the 100-employee barrier by the summer of 2018.

James Taylor joined Macildowie as a post-graduate in 1997 when he approached the business to find him a job in accountancy. They liked him so much, they offered him a job in recruitment.

“I started on a temporary contract, and was still looking for other roles in accountancy. I’m glad I made the choice to stay – it was a good time to be working in recruitment. We were a small firm at the time, and it very very much like ‘us against the world’ – like a competition. The firm was also a meritocracy; you got paid for how hard you were prepared to work – our earning potential was in our own hands. A lot of youngsters today could learn from that experience.”

Twenty years on, and “everything has changed” in the recruitment industry, said Taylor.

“It’s completely digitised,” he said, “but nothing will change the fact that recruitment is all about people.”

Macildowie currently employs 80 people in Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, Northampton, Coventry and Milton Keynes. Taylor has plans to take an extra 20 people on a year.

“By the end the summer next year we’ll be employing 100 people,” said Taylor.

Taylor also told us that Macildowie will be pushing into new territories over the next 12 months.

He said: “We’ll be looking at places like Warwick, Sheffield and Oxford. Recruitment is the best barometer for the state of the economy, and at the moment there is a very high demand for staff. Things are good.”
