Former Curtins pair go it alone

James Garment and David Strong

Two former directors at Curtins have joined forces to launch their own business.

David Strong and James Garment, who have a combined 40 years’ experience in the engineering industry, have set up Hexa Consulting.

The pair, who describe themselves as ‘hands-on directors’ say the new business, which is headquartered in Nottingham, has already secured a number of new contracts across the Midlands.

Garment said: “Our business focuses on relationships. We listen to our clients’ needs and utilise whatever solutions, be they simple or complex, that are necessary to best meet their project goals. We are not afraid to offer different ideas and always look for added value.”

“We are both very hands-on people and we are excited to be designing, leading and helping to evolve our clients’ projects again.”

Garment has worked on projects that include more than 50 new primary and secondary schools over the last ten and EON’s award-winning headquarters in Nottingham city centre. He was also the lead engineer on the £100m Resort World Birmingham project on the NEC campus in Solihull. This included a 50-unit retail outlet, a health spa, numerous food establishments, a multi-screen cinema, a hotel and a covered car park.

Strong added: “We respond to each and every client on an individual basis and we tailor our services to match those needs.

“We know from our clients that they want a positive service delivered by individuals who are prepared to challenge the norm. They continue to expect us to be driving economies through our work. But they also appreciate the global climate issue and want their teams to be brave enough to explain alternative options and what that provides them in terms of a carbon saving and an enhanced ‘feel’ to a building.”

Strong has led a number of major projects such as the Heart of Campus development at Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton campus, the £40m redevelopment of the Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities at De Montfort University and the £25m Kaplan scheme within Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter which included a learning facility along with 260 residential bedrooms.
