Deadline for £100m City Ground decision approaches

A deadline for deciding whether the transformation of Nottingham Forest’s City Ground – including a 19- and 10-floor residential scheme next to the stadium – will get the go-ahead is just over a week away.

In October, the final date for a decision on the ambitious £100m scheme, was moved back for a second time to Tuesday January 19 in order to accommodate further revisions to the building as well as highway alterations.

The two buildings are part of a plan to extend the City Ground to a 36,000 capacity stadium, which was originally revealed in February 2018.

There have been two previous extensions for determination – the first on February 28 and then on August 31 last year.

A letter from Rushcliffe Borough Council’s principal planning officer sent to architect Benoy last October read: “As you are aware we have been undertaking further discussions regarding the design aspects of the residential element of the proposal and are presently waiting further revised plans to be received and considered. We look forward to receiving this information and an update on remaining highways and other matters in the very near future to allow the necessary consultation with external consultees.

“In these circumstances I would propose that we agree a further extension of time and would suggest that three months is appropriate in the current situation. If the Borough Council is able to make a decision before then of course we will aim to.”
