East Midlands auctioneer opens Europe’s biggest indoor auction hub

John Pye Auctions, has opened Europe’s largest indoor auction hub in Port Talbot.

The new facility stretches 315,000 sq ft and is the auctioneers’ largest site to date.

With its head office in the old Shipstones Brewery building on Radford Road in Nottingham, John Pye Auctions has grown from one trading site to 20 in the last five years and its workforce has gone from 24 to 250 over the last 15 years. The Port Talbot site is its latest phase of UK expansion.

Managing director Adam Pye said: “With a number of key clients based in South Wales the area has been of interest to us for a while and we spent six months searching for the right site.

“Opening a hub of this size is a major milestone for us and we are pleased to be operating in South Wales. It’s a fantastic region with great prospects and having only been open for several days, we have already seen a great deal of interest from the people of South Wales and beyond.

“We have a number of long term growth projects which offer some bright prospects going forward and our South Wales hub will play a key role in supporting many of those.”

Business development director Sheldon Miller added: “This is our biggest site to date in our UK network and presents a fantastic prospect for the business and the region as a whole.

“In 2012 we acquired a similar site to this in the West Midlands and that site has grown from one saleroom to six and from six staff to 70 in four years. John Pye Auctions South Wales Hub, which we be calling Auction City as it develops in stature, will grow even faster since our business has developed significantly further in operational and sales volume over the last four years.
