Nottingham homes set for energy efficiency upgrades in £153m regional initiative

More than 2,500 properties across Nottingham are set to benefit from an energy efficiency upgrade as part of a £153m regional initiative aimed at cutting carbon emissions and reducing household energy bills.

Nottingham City Council’s executive board has approved the acceptance of nearly £76m in Government funding for the initiative, following a successful bid to the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund by the Midlands Net Zero Hub, which is hosted by the Council.

It is part of a broader effort to upgrade over 8,500 homes across the Midlands, with a strong focus on improving social housing.

In Nottingham alone, the project will deliver improvements to around 2,500 properties, helping to bring them up to an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C.

Homes selected for upgrades will see the installation of a range of energy-saving measures, including cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, loft insulation, draughtproofing, and improved heating controls.

These upgrades aim to create warmer, more energy-efficient homes while also cutting carbon emissions, tackling fuel poverty, supporting green job creation, and enhancing the comfort and well-being of social housing residents.

The improvements are in line with national targets to boost energy efficiency in homes by 2030.

Councillor Sam Lux, the Council’s Executive member for carbon reduction, leisure and culture said: “This is a fantastic result for the city. We have secured a significant amount of funding to upgrade our social housing, reducing the number of houses currently below an energy performance rating of C. It will help us create warmer, healthier homes, save residents money by lowering bills and reduce emissions, helping towards our ambition to become the UK’s first carbon-neutral city.”

The latest funding builds on the success of two previous waves of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, which were also spearheaded by the Midlands Net Zero Hub.

These earlier phases secured £14.9m and £47.2m, contributing to projects worth a combined £128.4m.
