This week’s East Midlands news: Supermarket sweep

It’s the time of year when we all brave crowed, claustrophobic, often crazy queues at supermarkets to make sure that Christmas Day goes without a hitch. Perhaps no surprise, then, that this week’s best-read story involved Morrisons.

Supermarket Morrisons has launched its first new convenience store since chief executive David Potts disposed of the ill-fated M Local chain.

The first store is located at a 3,000 sq ft site at a Texaco petrol station run by Rontec Retail on Thurmaston Lane in Hamilton, Leicester.

In second place comes our exclusive on national property consultancy LSH which is set to close its Leicester office at the end of the year.

The firm says it will service Leicester from its Nottingham office.

The De Montfort Street office will close on 31 December, with the two remaining members of staff, Jane Taylor and Jag Ladhar, leaving the business.

In third, comes the tale of RPC Group, the plastics manufacturer which has sites in Leicester, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, making a £219m bid for ESE World of Germany.

ESE, which is owned by Stirling Square Capital Partners, is Europe’s largest “pure play” temporary waste storage solutions provider.

ESE’s manufacturing footprint includes one facility in Germany and one in France, in addition ESE has one R&D centre in Germany. The company employs approximately 600 people. For the year ending 31 December 2016, the ESE is expecting to turnover in excess of £167m.
