It wouldn’t be Christmas without the threat of a strike somewhere, and this week’s top story was the now postponed industrial action by Swissport baggage handlers at East Midlands Airport.
Travellers at East Midlands Airport were set to be hit by two days of strikes as workers at Swissport, the world’s largest ground and cargo handler, were set to go on strike for two days on 23 and 24 December. The dispute was later called off, much to the relief of Christmas holidaymakers everywhere.
Second most-read this week was the news that a fast-expanding chain of bars looks set to open in Nottingham after applying to the City Council for a license.
Mojo Bar, which has outlets in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool is owned by Voodoo Doll which is looking to open up in the former Jongleurs Comedy Club in Thurland Street in the Hockley area of Nottingham.
In third place was the tale of Alan Hardy, owner of Paragon Interiors, helping himself to the biggest Christmas present he’s probably ever bought after it was revealed that he is to buy Notts County from Ray Trew.
