Benoy snaps up London rival

Newark-headquartered architectural practice Benoy has bought a London-based rival.

Benoy has snapped up The Holmes Wood Consultancy for an undisclosed amount in a deal advised upon by Gavin Cummings and Sam Sharp of Browne Jacobson.

Benoy was founded in the UK in 1947 and is now working in over 80 countries. Its impressive portfolio includes landmarks such as Bluewater, Kent and Westfield London in the UK, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and The Beach, Dubai in the UAE, Parc Central, Guangzhou, in China, and the new Terminal 4 at Singapore’s Changi Airport, due to open in 2017.

Holmes Wood was founded in 2000. Its clients include arts institutions as well as corporate and commercial organisations including The Tate, The Victoria and Albert Museum, Oxford University, Virgin Atlantic and EasyJet.

Tom Cartledge, CEO, Benoy Group said: “We are excited to welcome Holmes Wood into the Benoy Group. The mix of Benoy’s architectural, masterplanning and interior design expertise alongside Holmes Wood’s pioneering wayfinding, signage and graphic design experience makes for an extraordinarily compelling combination. I am confident that this strategic acquisition will mark the beginning of a new phase of international growth for Benoy Group as we look to expand into new sectors, services and markets. Together, the Benoy Group will deliver complete commercial solutions.”

Sam Sharp, corporate finance lawyer, Browne Jacobson, added: “Holmes Wood and Benoy are united by a passion for design, creativity and innovation. Both companies pride themselves on providing exceptional client service. The recent acquisition will enable the Benoy Group to further extend and enhance its offer, take better advantage of global opportunities and realise its ambitions for increased growth.”

Holmes Wood will retain its brand and operational independence under the umbrella of the Benoy Group post acquisition.
