Ilkeston factory site sold after iconic building demolished

The former Belfield Furnishing site on Furnace Road, Ilkeston, has been sold, with the deal completed through Salloway Property Consultants.

The sale was conditional on the demolition of the 98,000 sq ft factory building, which had stood on the site since the 1950s/60s and was once used by Cadbury’s Biscuits.

Despite the building’s robust construction with reinforced concrete pillars and floors, it was demolished as part of the sale agreement.

The site spans 4.71 acres, and while the main building has been cleared, two smaller units have been kept by the new owners, who plan to use the majority of the site for their own purposes.

Chris Keogh of Salloway Property Consultants, along with Alex Reid of Mather Jamie, acted as joint marketing agents for the sellers, with legal support from Nazira Alimahomed of PA Todd & Company.

Keogh said: “It’s fair to say that this property has never been short of interest. However, the unconventional layout of the main building has always meant that the focus of the majority of the enquiries received was heavily centred around the land itself.”
