Redevelopment of former Derby nightclub gets green light

Plans to turn a 19th century former chapel in Derby, which was last used as an amusement centre and nightclub, into a retail, theatre and gallery scheme have been given the green light by Derby City Council.

Green Lane House was built in 1878. Now, developer Akorne will revert the building to its original glory.

A 3,000 sq ft basement, previously a Quicksilver amusement arcade, will be transformed into retail use and will separate from the other floors and exist as a self-contained unit.

The ground floor area with its main entrance on St Peters Churchyard could also be utilised as retail space.

Akorne said the first and second floors, previously used as a nightclub, could be used by a small theatre group.

The balcony will be preserved along with the 20th century extension to the building, which was added in the 1950s or 60s. While it requires “extensive” repair, it has been highlighted by Akorne that it could accommodate a gallery and cade measuring 6,500 sq ft.
