Forest approach Clough as Al Hasawi reveals £122m spend

Nigel Clough in action for Forest

Nottingham Forest have approached Nigel Clough to be their new manager, according to reports.

Clough, whose father Brian is a legend at the City Ground, is currently boss at Championship rivals Burton Albion, but played over 300 games for Forest.

Forest have been looking for a manager since they sacked Philippe Montanier on January 14.

Burton are three places below Forest in the Championship, who are 19th and five points outside the relegation zone.

Neither Forest nor Burton said they would comment on the reports.

Meanwhile, Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi this week said that he had spent £122m since taking over at Forest in 2012, insisting he is determined to get the infrastructure right at the club before putting it up for sale again.

Two weeks ago, the deal that would’ve seen Nottingham Forest being sold to new American owners collapsed over the weekend with manager Phillipe Montanier also leaving the club.

A statement from Al Hasawi read: “”It is with great regret and disappointment that the club announces today that, despite much speculation in the media, all negotiations in regard to a partial sale of the club to US owners have come to an end.

“We feel strongly that we have acted in good faith on behalf of the club and its fans and that such a deal as it stands is not in the interests of the long-term future of our club.”

“Thank you for your continued support at this difficult time for the club.”
