City living could be on the way to Nottingham’s Pearl Assurance House

A new plan to develop 36 apartments right in the heart of Nottingham city centre has been put to planning chiefs at the City Council.

AEW UK REIT of Birmingham wants to turn Pearl Assurance House from offices into flats.

The ground floor of Pearl Assurance House is occupied by Costa Coffee, Poundland and Lakeland, among others, while the first floor is used as an accountancy training centre and other offices. Floors 2 to 9 are currently being used as office space by the likes of Turner and Townsend, Press Association, Ashton Bond Gigg Solicitors, Prospects, Direct Health Group and the Big Lottery Fund.

The new apartments would be made up of 15 two-bedroom apartments and 21 one-bed flats.

AEW UK REIT is a real estate investment trust, headed up by managing director Richard Tanner and is listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange.

The news comes days after plans were lodged with Nottingham City Council to turn 49-51 Stoney Street in Nottingham, a block of serviced offices in the Lace Market, into 21 flats.
