Baldwins swoops for Notts accountancy rivals

Baldwins, the fast-growing firm of accountants, has bought a Nottinghamshire rival.

Minshalls Chartered Accountants, which has an office in Newthorpe and employs nine people, is the latest East Midlands firm to join the Baldwins Accountancy Group, which also has offices in Nottingham, Ashby, Derby and Melbourne.

The deal will see Baldwins move staff from its current Ilkeston office to join the 12 strong team of staff at Minshalls’ office in Newthorpe.

The Newthorpe office will generate more than £1.3m in yearly fees and will trade as Baldwins.

Shaun Carpenter, currently manager at Baldwins in Ilkeston, has also been promoted to director and will work alongside current Minshalls director Richard Minshall at the Newthorpe office.

Steve Harcourt, director at Baldwins in Nottingham, will oversee the running of both of Baldwins offices in Nottingham and Newthorpe.

Richard Minshall is a director at Minshalls and founded the firm in 1995, which is a general practice and looks after more than 500 clients covering tax, audit, compliance, payroll, bookkeeping and wider advisory needs.

He said: “Since setting up Minshalls I’ve always strived to develop it into a business that is turning over £1 million, so this added investment from Baldwins is fantastic news for the firm and the local area.

“Minshalls has consolidated its reputation locally as a provider of specialist accountancy services across a variety of sectors, so joining forces with the Baldwins Group provides us with greater coverage and significantly enhances the resources we will have available to us to service our clients.

The last 12 months has seen Baldwins grow from 16 to 34 offices across the country as part of its national strategic expansion plan, employing over 800 staff with an annual turnover of circa £50 million.

Harcourt believes Baldwins joining forces with Minshalls spells good news for the region’s businesses.

He added: “We know first-hand that the East Midlands is a thriving area for owner managed businesses which is demonstrated in Minshalls’ client base, so we’re delighted to be able to inject further investment into the region to help local firms to grow.”
