Restructuring specialist swaps West for East Midlands

(L-R) Andy Barber, Richard Philpott and Tim Bateson

KPMG has appointed Richard Philpott to its East Midlands practice.

Philpott, a deal advisory expert and former R3 Midlands chairman, will lead the firm’s restructuring team, providing advice to clients across the region.

Philpott rejoins restructuring senior managers, Andy Barber and Tim Bateson, to lead the 15-strong East Midlands team. He was previously based at KPMG’s Birmingham office, where he led a national team.

“Having started my career in the East Midlands over 30 years ago, I’m pleased to return to Nottingham, where I’ll be working closely with Andy and Tim. Marrying my restructuring advisory knowledge with Andy and Tim’s breadth of experience across the restructuring and distressed M&A market, gives the team a perfect blend of skills to meet our clients’ needs.

“Now, more than ever, is the time for businesses to have local access to expert advice and insight, particularly with the current nervousness arising as Brexit and Article 50 continue to dominate the headlines. The good news is that while most East Midlands businesses are preparing for uncertain times ahead, we’re still seeing a healthy number of deals complete.”

Ian Borley, East Midlands senior partner and head of enterprise for KPMG in the Midlands, said: “I am delighted to welcome Richard back to the East Midlands team. He brings with him a wealth of turnaround and restructuring experience, and his appointment represents further investment in KPMG’s regional practice. We have a really strong team in place, ready to provide advice to businesses of any size when they need it most – as cash and/or profits come under pressure.”
