£50m Chilwell residential scheme gets green light

Residential developer Farland Developments has secured planning permission for a 250-unit scheme on the former home to Barton Transport in Chilwell in Greater Nottingham.

The plans, which were presented by Farland Developments, The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community and Bartons, were approved by Broxtowe Borough Council and will see a 12-acre brownfield site transformed into a mixture of homes, including affordable ones, and green space.

Construction is due to start in Autumn 2017.

Nicholas Tubbs, chief executive of Farland Developments said: “We’re delighted that our plans for ‘The Barton Quarter’ have been granted planning permission.

“Based on the traditional principles of place-making, our vision is to create beautiful houses and streets which rely as much on design, heritage and character as they do on functionality. The Barton Quarter will be a leading example of this vision. We’re now looking ahead to prepare for construction, bringing the vision for ‘The Barton Quarter’ to life.”

Ben Bolgar, senior director of the Prince’s Foundation for Building Community said: “There is public support and evidence for popular development. Communities are realising they have a say over what’s built in their backyard and they are finding that’s not contrary to the aims of the landowners and developers, such as the Barton family and Farland Developments, who possess a more forward looking and enlightened view as to the legacy they leave behind. We are delighted that the project can now move forward, creating a sustainable and vibrant place for future generations to live.”

Acting for Farland Developments were The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community; Ben Pentreath and Associates; Barton Willmore Planning Consultants; Copper Consultancy, Urban Engineering Studio and Savills.
