Former City Council planning chief killed in road traffic accident

The former planning officer at Derby City Council who was involved in landmark schemes such as Pride Park and the Roundhouse conversion has been killed in a road traffic accident.

John Stewart, 72, was killed in a road traffic accident while out cycling last Thursday evening (15 June).

Stewart worked at the Council for an unbroken period of 47 years

Paul Robinson, the chief executive of Derby City Council, said: “Members and officers at the City Council are truly saddened to hear of John’s sudden death.

“His working life was spent serving the people of Derby and to give 47 years of unbroken service working on such projects is remarkable.

“Everyone at Derby City Council sends their sympathies and thoughts to John’s family at this very sad time.”
