DHP to expand into Birmingham

Rock City in Nottingham

Nottingham-headquartered promoter and venue owner DHP Family is set to open a outlet in Birmingham, according to reports.

Music Week says the firm will open a 400-capacity city centre site in the second half of 2018.

The as-yet-unnamed venue will serve food, have a bar and a full programme of live music and club nights, according to DHP.

The firm’s promotions director Anton Lockwood told Music Week: “We pick cities where we think there’s a real opportunity to grow something.

“It is tough for small venues, but we think that if you create somewhere that people actually want to be, rather than have to go to just because they want to see a band, it becomes more economically viable,” said Lockwood.

The venue will bring DHP’s portfolio to nine; it also owns Nottingham’s Rock City, Stealth, Bodega and Rescue Rooms, London’s The Garage, Oslo and Borderline, and Bristol’s Thekla.
