Council puts Grade II listed former country house up for sale

Allestree Hall and Stable Block is to be put up for sale in May, Derby City Council has announced.

The council said it will be offering the opportunity to operate the adjoining golf course while retaining ownership of the remaining land as public open space which forms Allestree Park.

Allestree Hall is a 19th century stone built Grade II listed former country house, with outbuildings arranged over two/three storeys.

The majority of the hall is empty and requires refurbishment. It is located within Allestree Park which comprises 300 acres of public open space.

Cllr Martin Rawson, cabinet member for regeneration and economy, said: “Allestree Hall is a unique opportunity to acquire a significant grade II* listed former country house. We are seeking proposals to bring the hall and outbuildings back into use. We are willing to consider a variety of uses – including residential, leisure, education and commercial – but any conversion of the hall will need to be undertaken in a sympathetic manner which reflects its listed status.

“We welcome the opportunity to speak with any parties who would like to express an interest in the hall. This will allow us to discuss any plans for the sensitive conversion of the building to bring it back into use in a sustainable and comprehensive manner. In addition we are seeking any viable proposals for the operation of the adjacent golf course facility.”
