Plans in for mixed-use scheme in Bestwood
A planning application has been submitted for 12 new houses and a 64-bed residential care home on the site of the Eden Lodge Care Home in Bestwood Village Nottingham.
The proposals, designed by Rayner Davies, outlines the demolition of the existing care home and the construction of three and four-bedroom houses and a new care facility which will include a cinema, hairdresser and café.
The proposals have been submitted by Sai Om, owners of the existing care facility on the site.
The scheme has been designed by Julien McGuinness, care home specialist at Rayner Davies Architects.
A statement from Rayner Davies said: “Initial consultations with Gedling planners regarding the potential for the site proved positive; the pre-application submission made early in 2017 was viewed favourably as they felt that it offered an opportunity to redevelop what had become an unattractive and underutilized site.
“The design challenges were however still substantial. The site is adjacent to the Bestwood Village Conservation Area, is next to the listed War Memorial and is dominated by the imposing Victorian Clocktower.
“The proposals have been arranged in such a way as to maximize views of the Clocktower with all of the buildings being only two stories. All are predominantly south facing, with most of the care home bedrooms overlooking the Bestwood Village Cricket Club pitch. The mature trees on the site and adjacent to High Main Drive have been retained in what will be a high quality landscaped area.”
