Magna Park extension saga takes another turn

Magna Park, Lutterworth

The latest twist in the long-running saga of the Magna Park extension in Lutterworth has seen an appeal lodged against the decision to refuse planning permission for a development that could create up to 5,500 jobs.

IDI Gazeley has launched an appeal against the decision by Harborough District’s decision to refuse plans for a storage and distribution centre, country park, Logistics Institute of Technology and other facilities, at land at Mere Lane, Bittesby. The application was reconsidered on 10 January 2018 by the council, following a call-in by local councillors, and a decision was made to refuse the application.

The appeal has been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate.

Meanwhile, Harborough District Council has been told that its decision to approve a separate application, from developer DB Symmetry, for a storage and distribution centre on land adjacent to Glebe Farm, Coventry Road, Lutterworth, last November, will not be called in by the Secretary of State. This means outline planning consent for the DB Symmetry application is granted, with some 3,500 jobs set to be created.
