Nottingham coach company looking at ‘large-scale acquisition’

A Nottingham coach company says it is looking at a “potential large-scale acquisition” as it pushes through the £20m turnover barrier.

Skills Holidays, which is based in Radford, has been trading since 1919. Today, the company employs 350 people and has a fleet of 160 vehicles.

Skills’ chairman is Nigel Skill, the grandson of the company’s founder. He took over the business in 1987 when he bought it from his father. In the past three years, turnover has risen from £8m to £20m.

“We’ve grown rapidly in the last three years through strategic acquisitions, including local operators and a large National Express contract which we won in 2015,” said Nigel Skill.

He added: “As the business has grown so has the team in charge and we have recently restructured as a business, ensuring there is a tight management team in place to help us strengthen and grow.

“I’ve looked to recruit highly skilled management staff from other industries which has brought fresh ideas to the traditional business model and the five new members of the team are helping drive Skills expansion success.”

Skills says it is currently looking at potential large-scale acquisition which would allow it to continuing growing at such a rapid rate.

Coaching holidays make up a large area of the business and Skills take passengers on breaks across the UK and Europe. The company works alongside some of the other largest tour operators in the UK including PGL Holidays and Leger Holidays.
