M1 closed after multi-vehicle collision

The M1 in Leicestershire is closed northbound between J20 (Lutterworth A4303, Market Harborough A4304) and J21 (Coventry M69, Leicester A5460) due to a multi-vehicle collision.

All emergency services are attending the scene.

Earlier, both lanes had been closed to traffic.

Highways England says a diversion is available. For northbound traffic exit at J20 and follow the route marked with a hollow square symbol on road signs. This will take traffic west on the A4303 to Magna Park to join the A5 northbound. Continue north on the A5 to the junction with the M69 (J1). Join the M69 north to J2 and rejoin the M1 (at J21).

Road users may wish to allow additional time for their journey and consider alternative routes, says Highways England.

Meanwhile, Leicestershire Police tweeted this morning: “We have received further reports of collisions on the tail end of these closures, please avoid the area and seek alternative routes, and make sure you drive to the conditions of the road.”
