Barrie Stephen, the owner of a chain of hair salons in Leicestershire, has become the first-ever patron of The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity.

Providing loans which are completely interest-free to aspiring or developing business owners within Leicestershire and Rutland, The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity has helped thousands of entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35 become self-employed, with Barrie Stephen Hair arguably one of the most recognised businesses to have benefited.

Stephen said: “I was honoured to be asked to become the first patron of The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity. I didn’t need to think twice and the role is a perfect fit for me, because without the charity, I wouldn’t be in the position that I am today.

“I still have my business plan which formed part of my application, and the process of applying for my initial loan 23 years ago was amazing. I’m now excited to share my story with others who are contemplating engaging with The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, as their support really can make a huge difference to anybody wishing to become self-employed or eager to make a first step in creating a business empire. I hope I can serve as an example of what is possible.”

Accountancy company Duncan & Toplis has appointed a new director to its Louth office.

Rachel Barrett steps up after a decade-long career at the Top 30 UK accountancy practice.

She will joining the current director of the Louth office, Nick Cudmore, who has been in the role for 12 years.

Managing director Adrian Reynolds said: “Rachel has had a fantastic career at Duncan & Toplis over the past 10 years and her ideas for the future of the Louth office are really impressive. Her innovative outlook and understanding of the local area made her the obvious choice for the role.
