Closed pub to reopen creating 25 jobs

How the new pub will look

Some 25 jobs are set to be created after The Secret Pub Company, which runs the Railway in Lowdha revealedm is taking on the New Trent in Radcliffe on Trent.

Together with Star Pubs & Bars, Heineken’s pub business, the company is investing £450,000 which will see the closed pub reopen as a family- and dog-friendly village pub called The Radcliffe.

The company says the New Trent investment, which is due to start early June, will radically change the pub in terms of look, feel and what it offers whilst staying true to the pub’s heritage. Similar to The Railway, food will be a major attraction when it reopens at the end of July.

The pub will offer four real ales, continental lagers and an extensive spirits range, as well as unique wines from an independent, family owned wine supplier. All of which are available by the glass and bottled at source.

The coffee will be organic and fair trade – a unique blend which local roaster Stewarts of Trent Bridge have blended specially for The Radcliffe.

David Hage of The Secret Pub Company said: “We’ve been interested in the New Trent for some time. It’s got a good-sized kitchen, garden and carpark and is in a super catchment area. To make it work it needed significant investment and to change radically.

“We’re super excited about taking on The Radcliffe as we can see its potential. It will be unlike anything else in the area. The food will be exceptional, which is part of the reason The Railway has enjoyed its success of nine industry awards.

“The Radcliffe will also have a full and varied calendar of exciting large-scale events for the community, from summer school garden parties to a Christmas Lights Switch On.”

Says Star Pubs & Bars operations director, Alun Johnson, said: “The refurbishment of the New Trent is great news for the residents of Radcliffe on Trent and the surrounding area as it’s a major upgrade of a closed pub and a change in direction with new award-winning operators at the helm. David and Mark have an excellent track record at The Railway and a real passion for excellence. The Radcliffe is going to be another fantastic village pub for them, and I look forward to visiting it.”
