Green light for Grade A office which will bring 1,000 desk spaces to Nottingham

How Crocus Place will look

Planning consent has been granted for a new seven storey Grade A office block in the Southside area of Nottingham, bringing over 1,000 desk spaces to the city centre

The proposal by Nottingham City Council will transform a vacant site on the south east junction of Arkwright Street and Crocus Street into Crocus Place, a brick and glass fronted office next to the tram lines at Nottingham Station. The site was used as a base of operations for the NET lines 2 and 3 construction and now sits in a key location for office space in the city.

The proposal for the 125,000 sq ft Crocus Place scheme was unveiled at MIPIM earlier this year.

At the event in Cannes, the then-leader of Nottingham City Council Jon Collins told TheBusinessDesk.com: “We know that we need Grade A office space in the city. We’ve seen this through investors going elsewhere because we simply didn’t have the quality of office space for them in Nottingham, but developers want pre-lets and that’s not always simple.

“We have a pre-let on Crocus Place and that will help us bring the scheme forward.”

Crocus Place is the latest proposal for Grade A office space in the Southside area, along with Unity Square, Station Street and City Buildings, transforming the area with construction underway or due to begin by the end of the year. Crocus Place is expected to open in Summer 2021 as other developments come out of the ground around the site.

This includes the redevelopment of intu Broadmarsh, rebuilding the Broadmarsh car park and creating a new Central Library, transforming Nottingham Castle, the new Nottingham College City Hub and a pedestrian friendly environment for the area as well as the development Island Site, new Grade A office spaces and plans for thousands of new homes, including on the Island Site, Waterside and in the Meadows. The City Council says the plans will bring thousands more jobs, millions more visitors and economic growth for the city.

Councillor David Mellen, leader of the City Council, said: “This announcement ensures that the redevelopment of the Southside area of Nottingham continues apace, with plenty of activity in the area represented by the ever-increasing number of cranes in the sky in the area.

“Bringing top end, or Grade A, office space to the city has been a long-term ambition for the city which is now being realised by the hard work of our staff and partners to bring these developments forward. As a council we have laid out an ambitious redevelopment plan for the city to bring jobs, new businesses and economic growth to this city to benefit everyone living in Nottingham, and today marks another step towards that future.”

Perfect Circle is a consortium comprising Pick Everard, Gleeds and AECOM and is the team project managing the development (as well as delivering cost management, health and safety advisory and BREEAM services, mechanical and electrical engineering consultancy and NEC supervision).
