Plenty of cheer as brewery breaks ground

What the new Wells Co brewery will look like

Specialist contractor Clegg Food Projects is to create a new headquarters family brewers Wells & Co.

The Brewpoint project includes a brewing facility, a pub-restaurant, shop, coffee roastery, offices and a visitor centre.

Clegg Food Projects has started on site in Bedford and expects to complete the project in summer 2020.

John Moxon, business development director at the Nottingham-based company, said: “The brewing industry is doing really well at the moment and we’ve had a number of enquires within the sector. We’re therefore delighted to be delivering Brewpoint and to see the project come to life.”

Charles Wells sold its Bedford brewery and most of its beer brands to Marston’s in 2017, for £55m. It has recently rebranded to Wells & Co.

The main brewing plant will be capable of producing 5m pints a year.

Peter Wells, commercial director at Wells & Co., commented: “The creation of our beautifully designed new home is a statement of confidence about our future direction as a company. Brewpoint will be capable of producing a range of beer styles that we could only have dreamed of ten years ago.

“Our new home and the growing investment in our managed pubs are reflective of our plans to meet the changing needs of the next generation of customers.”
