Lidl to create jobs as it signs up for 21,000 sq ft store

Supermarket chain Lidl is set to open a new unit at the Strawson Property’s Northern Tower Retail Park in Retford.
The move will Lidl occupy around 21,000 sq ft on Retford’s new shopping destination.
The Northern Tower development will create over 100 jobs, and deliver 60,000 sq ft of retail space.
Strawsons says building work on Northern Tower, which is prominently located on London Road and will consist of up to nine units, will start shortly after the approval of the reserved matters application which has been submitted to Bassetlaw District Council in the last few days.
Adam Jones of Strawsons Property said Lidl’s decision to invest in the project had been fuelled by the “strength of the Retail Park’s location, surroundings and support from the local community”.
Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Graham Burr, said: “We are delighted to be opening a new store in Retford, which marks another milestone in our ambitious store expansion programme. We’ve seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across the country and look forward to offering our quality products and incredible value to shoppers in and around Retford very soon.”
Jones added: “We are pleased to announce Lidl as the first tenant at The Northern Tower Retail Park. The park is the final stage of a major regeneration project in our home town of Retford and we are extremely proud to see the project attract such well-known names.
“This project has safeguarded and created many hundreds of jobs and will have turned what was once a dilapidated Victorian site into a vibrant part of the local community.
“We were delighted to complete the new HQ and manufacturing facilities for Icon Aerospace as we recognised the importance of safeguarding the presence of one of the biggest employers in the town, and we will be equally delighted to enhance the retail selection and shopping experience available to the residents.
“With building soon to re-commence, we look forward to concluding a project that we hope will be an important part of the town for many years to come.”
Paul White from Brown & Co, the agent appointed to oversee the lease of the units, said: “In addition to Lidl the Northern Tower Retail Park has already attracted a high level of interest from many of the UK’s leading retailers in the grocery, home and DIY sectors.
“It’s evident that this development will form an integral and much valued part of the town and local community.”
