New retail park set for West Bridgford

How the new scheme will look

Plans to turn a former car dealership into a mini retail park in West Bridgford have been given the green light.

Previously occupied by Sandicliffe, the site, on Loughborough Road opposite the Trent Bridge cricket ground, has been recently used as a temporary car park.

Now, developer B&K Thomas has been given the go-ahead to transform the rundown site into a mixed-use retail park by re-using and redeveloping the existing buildings to create six ground floor units and one on the first floor.

According to a planning statement, the end-users of the new scheme include a Co-op food store, a gym, a “local prestige fish restaurant operator”, a sandwich bar and a vetinary practice.

The statement adds: “Overall the scheme will regenerate an existing poor quality brownfield site and bring it back into a viable, vital and long term use. The scheme has not been designed or intended to be a ‘shopping destination’ but to serve a specific local need such as passing footfall and top up shopping.

“Within the vicinity of the site there has/will be significant new residential development, including the older persons accommodation on the northern part of the site.

“The proposed scheme will help support such growth and promote sustainable living and well-being, as well as place-making at the Trent Bridge nexus.”

The scheme is being designed by Maber.
